Bear spray is great as a thing to use once you know a bear is just being aggressive and doesn’t want to eat you to drive it off. Until then keep a gun at ready. You don’t have time to switch or think once the bear is already charging. If it backs down before you need to shoot then you get bear spray out.

I used my Nemo elite 1P tent out in the back country and was hit with light to moderate rain. It did absorb some moisture from the Nemo footprint. I'm looking to get a treking pole tent thats better in water resistance and wind. Would this be a better option over the Durston mid X?

Who in their right minds would use that 5 ounce stupidity burner? Oh the mess from all the soot, ultra fine charcoal that’s actually fuel by the way. USE A SIMILAR SIZED ROCKET STOVE because you can have the vertical and then screw in the side fuel and air shoot and the burning naturally draws air in so fast that some can sound like a fan is feeding the air due to the roar. Also you use way way less fuel.

Not true black bears are just as dangerous and if you are in bear country you better have bear spray with you as well as an air horn

I own an Drop X-Mid 1P. I love mine. I bought mine the moment I came across it on a Drop ad. It ticked all of my boxes. Over the years I have used it backpacking. Lately it goes into my top box for ADV motorcycle camping with the Z-Flick poles. Great tent. I've owned many tents over my lifetime and this is my favorite, go-to tent. Simply brilliant!

This is great but where I live it often rains during the summer which is when I would be doing the bulk of my backpacking. If the floor of tent is wet it seems like i might be better off with a sleeping bag because it stays on the pad. Do you agree that i should stick with a bag or is the switch worth it?

The big notable downside on that Tark trowel is the cost. While not pricey, it's literally twice the price of the Bogler. Also, while it mostly serves as secondary burner for making tea and oatmeal while car camping, I love the Amicus. It's worked great in a variety of light to moderate wind and temps and my kinda wide ultralight kettle is rock stable on it. Great option for the money.

Just a thought...everyone says that the insulation on the bottom of your sleeping bag is useless as it's compressed when in the bag. But with a mat like the insulated klymit V, the voids between baffles allows your sleeping bag to loft under you. Does this make it warmer than the r value indicates?

How did you manage to never use a footprint? 👌🏻 How thick was the tent floor of your tents most of the time? 20D? And did you had any moisture problems on the floor with that?

I like the sun hoodie concept, but for sun protection I want only white or very light grey. Darker colors I find too hot when in the bright sunshine of high altitudes. Those floral ones are fun, but I think they'd be less comfortable than a white one.

Stink test experiment: please test...wash your hiking clothes (t-shirts, pants, socks underwear, hats scarfs etc whatever you shall be wearing, including shoes). Once done re soke everything in a large sink, bath etc in warm water which contains a good amount of baking soda for at least 30 min. Rinse. Spin in a washing machine, and leave to dry or use tumble dryer until dry. Before you go hiking put your feet in a small tub of water containing baking powder... And also put some baking powder under your arm pits etc. after some time say 10 min..dry your self etc...the idea is that baking powder is a natural germ killer and deodoriser. If there is no bacteria present on your clothes and self you should not stink.. at least not to quickly.. then go on your hike... Please test for how much longer you stay stink free.. thanks a fan from the tiny island of Malta

Yeah tell em, experience over ignorance always wins. I am 73 and just starting camping after my wife died. I bought my tent and other gear based on the experiences and wisdom of you and a few others on you tube. Like TOGR, English Woodsman etc etc. I am in UK so am expecting a lot of wind and rain.
